The Dual Enrollment program at Knoxville Christian School is a way for our High School Juniors and Seniors to earn both college and high school credit simultaneously. Through our local partner schools such as Pellissippi State Community College, students can take college courses and get a head start on their college career. These courses can be taken online or on a college campus. Dual Enrollment helps you get a head start on college and save money in the process.
Benefits of Dual Enrollment over AP Courses
- Some colleges and universities place a limit on the number of AP credit hours you can transfer.
- AP courses do not always give you full credit for the course you took. You may have to retake the course in college. This all depends on the school and your AP test scores.
- Dual Enrollment courses transfer much easier and will provide credit for almost the exact course at another college or university.
- If you decide to transfer the credit, it becomes part of your permanent college transcript.
How does Dual Enrollment Work?
- Notify the school Registrar that you want to do Dual Enrollment and the college you plan to do it through.
- Enroll in the course at the college
- Bring your schedule to the KCS Registrar before each semester as proof of enrollment.
- Attend and pass all your DE classes
- At the end of each semester, bring in official transcripts showing your grades.
Who Pays for Dual Enrollment?
- The student’s family is responsible for all Dual Enrollment finances. These charges are in addition to Knoxville Christian School tuition.
- However, most students qualify for financial aid through the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation Dual Enrollment Grant
Academic Requirements
- Vary by College and University. Check with each college you plan to attend.
- Example Requirements for Pellissippi State Community College
- High School GPA of 3.0
- ACT/PreACT score of 18 in English and 19 in Reading
- OR SAT/PSAT score of 500 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
- (PreACT/PSAT scores only accepted for Juniors)
